History
Bouncers Basketball Club was formed in 1953. It was formed by Charlie Doyle and a group of hockey players.
In 1965 Charlie Doyle helped establish the outdoor courts at the Hermit Park School. This was the first time in Townsville Basketball history that a local club had a ready source of players. In the period from 1966 to 1972, Bouncers won over 100 junior premierships and featured as a leading club in the senior competition.Bouncers have a reputation for being a well-organised group who promote juniors and concentrate on the fundamentals of basketball.
The Tigers boasted numerous state representatives and continued to lead the way in Townsville by introducing innovations to the competition such as complex structured offence and structured alternating full court man and zone defence.Bouncers have continued to be leaders in the Townsville Basketball community. During the 1980s we constructed our own training establishment in Kirwan. These courts service the western suburbs of Townsville/Thuringowa.Last year Bouncers registered the second largest number of junior players in Townsville Basketball with 200 players. A total of 24 junior teams and 20 senior teams.
Our philosophy is based on three tenets:
Sporting attitude
Physical fitness
Teaching fundamentals
One of the strengths of our Club is the devoted and dedicated service of its members. A lot of our coaches are ex juniors.
We are not only about winning; we are about striving to maintain our heritage of fair play, the promotion of juniors and the love of our game. We ensure that an acceptable behaviour level is maintained by coaches, players and parents. We ensdorse the Townsville Basketball's Code of Conduct. Having achieved these aims, we will always be winners.
